ABOUT ME
Jacob Wu is a theatre designer and a scenographer from Hong Kong, currently based in London and Hong Kong. He is proudly one of the Elemental Artists with Watermill Theatre.
Jacob was trained in Scenography (MFA, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama), complementing his academic foundation in Set and Costume Design acquired in his hometown. His work was staged at numerous venues, including the Museum of Home, Shoreditch Town Hall, and the Crypt Gallery.
His performative workshop Be Right Back explores from the lens of children in perceiving the uncertainties of a daunting world way larger than them; the piece was staged at the Stockholm Fringe Festival 2023 and won the Audience Choice Award.
Along with friends and colleagues, he adapted a small theatre production based on the novel 1984, which was well-received by the audience. His stage designs were showcased at the 2019 Prague Quadrennial.
In 2018, he co-founded the art collective Yorozuya and collaborated with renowned Hong Kong artist Frog King (Kwok Mang-ho) to create set designs for On Harmony as Such and on the Harmony of Men at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial in Japan. Another art project by the collectives, Mandala, received funding support from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and was performed in 2022.
In addition to his design work, Jacob works part-time as a Specialist Technician at Wimbledon College of Arts, UAL, where he supports students in developing their model-making and set design skills, while also supervising technical workshops.
